The Old Naples Hotel, originally opened in 1889, was the first real hospitality establishment in the region. Backed by Kentucky entrepreneur Walter Haldeman, it played a pivotal role in drawing early tourists and land buyers to Naples. The hotel boasted 16 rooms, wraparound porches, and was within steps of Naples Pier and the Gulf of Mexico. Though the original hotel was sadly demolished in the mid-20th century, its legacy lives on in the gracious architecture, tropical landscaping, and intimate scale of Old Naples neighborhoods and inns.
Today, that spirit is kept alive by several historic or classically-inspired inns and boutique resorts that dot Third Street South, Fifth Avenue South, and Crayton Cove.
